Welcome to The Art of Susan Harrison-Tustain
A Demonstration - Delicate Petals ...(continued)

3.  Build Up Color and Shadows:
demo3Mask the stamens of the main flower with masking fluid; I use Schmincke masking fluid as it doesn't lift pigment when removing it from painted areas. Let dry completely, then continue to build up color in the required areas. Soften edges to describe gentle folds. Add a touch of Ultramarine Blue Finest to the local color to create soft shadows. Note how the cool shadows mold and describe the form of the petal. Build up a sufficient depth of color, then allow the painting to dry completely. Now wash over the entire flower with clear water, adding softness and continuity to your painting.
